If it helps for comparison dad ran a #10 hammermill that had 10 inch wide screens with a 51 A and the tractor had maybe a 50% load on it. The hammer mill has to be up to speed, I think the mill's ideal speed was 3500 RPM's.

My father had a Montgomery Wards 16" belt powered hammer mill. It had several different screens. When I was growing up, I shoveled many tons of corn and oats thru it. We usually powered it with an AC WD, or an AC D17. In earlier years they ran it with a John "B", which didn't really have enough power to operate it to its full capacity.

Pulled it with tractors and then used a LAE Case power unit. Any old 40 hp tractor with a belt pulley will run one fine. Ran mine for years with a 1946 MH 101SR with a Continental F226 engine. Many years ago, there was one up in the hills pulled with an old steel wheeled Fordson. A Farmall M will run one great also.
